Irish rock powerhouses U2 are back at No. 1 in America with their latest album Songs of Experience, which has started its run on the Billboard 200 in front of all other new offerings with relative ease. The new collection kicks off with 186,000 equivalent copies, and of that, almost all (180,000, to be exact) were actual sales. This most recent full-length marks their eighth to reach the summit in this country.

Songs of Experience follows 2014’s Songs of Innocence, which underperformed for the group, but which critics and fans still enjoyed. The album was given away by Apple, and it suddenly appeared on millions of phones without warning (which pleased some but angered many others). Because so many people were gifted with the latest from the rockers, when it was finally offered for sale later on, it only managed to debut and peak at No. 9 on the Billboard 200.

The Irish rockers first hit No. 1 in the U.S. back in 1987 with what some would still call their masterpiece, The Joshua Tree. That record established them as a force to be reckoned with, and it won them critical acclaim. Decades later, it’s still beloved, and earlier this year they went on tour and raked in over $300 million playing the album in full.
